The X-BERT is designed to measure the bite error rate (BER) of a
complete transceiver module or just the transmitters like lasers or
receivers operating at data rates between 9.9 and 11.1Gbps (optionally
down to 8Gbps). There are separate slots for optical and electrical
bit error rate testers. Each slot offers a transmit and a receive
port. An internal pseudo random binary sequence (PRBS) pattern
generator and error detector computes the bit error rate. The applied
reference clock defines the bit rate. The measurement result can be
read out via serial interface and be displayed on a graphical user
interface (GUI).
The externally provided reference clock can be in the 10G or 622M
range so, the user can set the operating data rate according to the
standard under test (Ethernet, Sonet, FEC etc.)
Also, the system can run with the internal clock source on a fixed
frequency chosen by the customer. For triggering purposes a correlated
10G clock can be provided at the front panel.
The sample point is adjusted automatically and relieves the user
from re-adjustments when propagation delay time of the device under
test (DUT) changes to variations in the signal condition. |
