Microsens Workplace Media Converters and Bridges

The 10 Gigabit converter is equipped with one RJ-45 port with 10GBase-T and one SFP+ slot according to 10GBase-X. The SFP+ slot allows the use of all standard SFP+ available on the market which gives the device a very high flexibility.

The device is used mainly in Enterprise networks to combine the media copper and fiber together in a universal way.

The converter operates in a transparent mode and has a very short latency. Jumbo frames can be transmitted.

Colour coded LEDS are giving status information about the converter and can be used for failure diagnostics in the network.

In order to use MICROSENS components with Power-over-Ethernet plus operation according to IEEE 802.3at, the user must apply a universal compact power supply unit for placing into cable trunks, sub-floor systems, respectively wall mounting housings.

Having extremely compact dimensions, this 54 VDC power supply unit has a power of 65 W. The power loss is minimized by the high efficiency factor of about 90%. The power unit is also equipped with an effective voltage surge protection as well as overload protection.

The power-supply MS700710 has conducted grounding, fixed wires at input and output.

For the use in medical environments there are power supplies with approval according to EN60601-1 standard available.

DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is for the digital transmission of video signals. Today DVI is already standard for the video transmission between PCs and high quality TFT screens and video projectors. Also in the entertainment electronics there are already TVs which are having a DVI interface and which can receive digital signals from DVD players or PCs.

The use of DVI Extenders is particular interesting for large video walls like in Stadiums, exhibitions, large stages, outside advertisement as well as in airports or train stations. By the use of passive optical splitters it is possible to have a multi screen application which means that one source is feeding several displays.

The DVI Extenders of MICROSENS support the digital standard DVI-D for single link applications with a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 pixels (UXGA). With the use of fiber it is possible to cover very long distances of 500 m (62,5/125 Multimode) or 700 m (50/125µm Multimode). Four fibers are used for the unidirectional transmission. The connection to the multimode fibers is done by standard LC-connectors.

The Mini Bridge enables fast and cost-effective integration of 10 Mbps Ethernet equipment in fiber optic-based Fast Ethernet networks. In addition to media conversion there is a corresponding speed matching for 10/100Base-TX.

The Auto Negotiation protocol is supported for automatic configuration of half and full duplex mode. Furthermore, the operation mode (full and half duplex) can be manually configured with a DIP switch.

The bridge is designed as a desktop device and available in two versions: for multimode (1000Base-SX) and single mode (1000Base-LX). A special feature is the possibility of an alternative power supply via the USB port so that the attached power supply need not to be used.

In an extended version there is an additional power supply via Power-over-Ethernet possible. In this case, the Bridge is used as a consumer (PD – Powered Device) and taps the corresponding power from the RJ-45 port.

The Fast Ethernet bridges are mainly used in company networks in order to universally combine copper and fiber optic media. In addition to the media conversion, speed matching for 10 and 100 can also be made. Therefore it is possible to integrate older 10 Mbps network equipment into a Fast Ethernet Network.

The equipment is designed as a compact desktop device with an external power supply (included in the delivery package). In addition to the individual use of the device, a central arrangement can be made for which a 19“ rack is available with and integrated power supply (also redundant as an option).

The Gigabit Ethernet Bridge has one RJ-45 port with 10/100/1000Base-T and one fiber optic port according to 1000Base-X. For Multimode applications there is a SC version available. The SFP version accepts all SFPs available on the market, which offers a high flexibility.

The dice is mainly use in enterprise networks, to combine the medias copper and fiber. Beside the media converter also the speed can be adjusted with 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps. This enables the connectivity of older devices to the converter. An additional application of this device is in Fiber To The Home installations.

MICROSENS’ Gigabit converter offers a cost effective and fast media conversion from copper (1000Base-T) to fiber optic (1000Base-SX/LX). The direct link enables the extension of twisted pair connections beyond the 100 m limit.

The autonegotiation protocol support allows for the automatic configuration of half- and full duplex connections. In addition to this the operating mode can be set manually by means of a DIP switch (full- /half duplex).

The converter is available as a tabletop unit with external AC adaptor. Two versions for multimode (1000Base-SX) and singlemode (1000Base-LX) are available.

Alternatively the Gigabit converter is available as a modular Access System plug-in unit allowing additional features like management, redundant power supply and up to 100 km reach.

BBN International supplies Microsens Gigabit Media Converter Multi- (MM) or Single Mode (SM)

These multimode/single mode converters support a protocol transparent and bi-directional coupling of multimode to single mode fiber optics with data rates of up to 155 Mbps. The coupling is realized directly without any protocol conversion.

The range of applications is extended to all data protocols in the LAN, MAN and WAN area such as Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI and ATM/SONET owing to the given transparency and data rate of up to 155 Mbps. Using a maximum of 40 Mbps, a special version supports even lower data rates for Ethernet (10 Mbps).

The converter is available with different optical power levels, wavelengths and connector types depending on the requirement. The equipment is designed as a desktop device. The power supply is generated by an external power unit contained in the delivery package.

The SFP to SFP media converters enable a protocol transparent, bi-directional coupling of multimode to single mode fibers and support data rates of up to 1.25 Gbps. The coupling is realized directly and transparently without any protocol conversion.

Optional there is a Bridge version for Fast and Gigabit Ethernet available. Beside the mode conversion also the speed can be adjusted with 100 and 1000 Mbps. One Bridge Slot is supporting 100/1000Base-X and the other one SFP slot 1000Base-X. This also enables the connection of older devices to the converter. Beside the automatic configuration of the ports the Bridge version can be configured manually as well by using the integrated DIP switches.

The SFP slots of the Media Converter and the Bridge version accepts all MSA compliant SFPs available on the market, which offers a high flexibility. Coloured LEDs are showing the status information and can be used for diagnostics of the network.
